  • Overview

    Egan Company is seeking candidates for an Electrical Designer/Building Information Modeling (BIM) Specialist position located at our corporate offices in Brooklyn Park, MN.


    Reporting to the Business Development/Preconstruction Manager, this position has an electrical focus and is responsible for designing and creating electrical construction documents for Egan’s design-build projects. The ideal candidate will utilize BIM principles and techniques to leverage model information, improve spatial coordination, and increase modeling efficiency.


    • Ability to work independently or as a team member to create the power and lighting designs for a variety of types.
    • Work in a collaborative fashion with the project Estimator, Project Manager, and Foreman to insure project is designed on budget, on time, and is constructible.
    • Incorporate the electrical design requirements for other specialty trades such as Mechanical and Low Voltage (these may be with other Egan trades or other sub-contracting firms).
    • Attend Project meetings to share and gather information, and to express project concerns and issues.
    • Utilize Revit to create construction documents, ensure constructibility, and assist with design calculations.


    Design Experience Requirements


    • Degree from a technical school in electrical construction/design or degree in electrical engineering or architectural engineering.
    • Experience working in the consulting engineering field or working for a design-build electrical contracting firm.
    • Project design experience should include a variety such as, shell and core office buildings, tenant build-outs, hotels, multi-family apartment buildings, warehouses, manufacturing, labs, medical facilities and parking ramps. 


    Technical Experience Requirements


    • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit.
    • Ability to perform lighting calculations using software such as Visual, Elumtools, Dialux or AGI.
    • Working knowledge of office programs such as Microsoft Excel and Word.
    • Working knowledge of Codes such as NEC, IBC, and the Minnesota Energy Code.
    • Willingness to learn programs such as SKM for use in determining fault current or voltage drop.
    • Proactive learner with the desire to continuously learn, improve and keep up with changing technologies.
